She put a price tag on it. On a podcast this week, Hillary Clinton said the money the Trump family has made off the presidency could pay for a full year of food benefits for about 1.3 million people — and the replies were less about the math and more about the messenger.
The clip comes from “On with Kara Swisher,” where Clinton, the former senator and secretary of state, argued that corruption enriching the president’s family drains services ordinary Americans rely on. Her own post summed it up in one line: “The corruption that is putting money in Trump’s pockets is costing all of us.”
Clinton went further: she said the same profits could cover more than 600 million free school lunches, or three months of groceries for the 5.2 million people she said have been thrown off SNAP. “So that’s putting it into, you know, very concrete terms,” she said. “You’re wasting your tax money. The corruption is rife. It’s undermining government services, even our national defense. And it is hurting people who should be able to get some support because of their, you know, needs for food or their need to pay their bills.”

The remarks land amid the fight over SNAP cuts following H.R. 1, the law known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Reporting on the episode cites an analysis saying about 5.2 million Americans have lost SNAP benefits since the law took effect. But the specific claim — that Trump family profits equal a full year of SNAP for 1.3 million people — has not been independently verified.
What Viewers Are Saying
On X, many posts questioned Clinton’s standing to raise the issue. “You have no credibility, Madam. You did terrible damage to our Society and our Republic with your lies and wicked schemes,” one user wrote. Another added: “I’ve made no secret of my loathing for Fat Orange, but have you ever heard of the Clinton Foundation?” A third wrote: “Crooked Hillary won’t talk about the hundreds of millions acquired by The Clinton Foundation.”
Not everyone pushed back — on Facebook, where Clinton also shared the clip, one commenter wrote: “Mrs. Clinton, this is a perfect articulate response to the reality that is occurring at the moment.” Sen. Elizabeth Warren has separately said “5 million people have already lost food assistance, including 1.5 million+ kids since the bill was enacted.”
So the argument splits in two: one side says the numbers describe a real squeeze on food assistance, the other says the messenger’s own history makes the charge impossible to take seriously. Viewers couldn’t agree on which matters more — the claim, or who made it.
