Yankees Make 3 Roster Moves After Crushing Playoff Exit

The New York Yankees brought back right-handers Bradley Hanner, Luis Gil, and Brendan Beck from the Florida Complex League Yankees on Thursday, as shown in the MiLB transactions log. This move came a day after Tampa Bay knocked them out of the American League Division Series.

All three moves, dated October 8, bring the pitchers back from the Tampa complex to the major-league side of the 40-man roster.
Since New York is already out of the playoffs, these moves do not add anyone to the active roster or set up any more appearances.
These moves undo the late-September decisions that sent the three pitchers to the lowest level of the system after the regular season and Wild Card Series ended.
Gil and Hanner were sent to the FCL Yankees after the September 24 game. Beck was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before the first game of a September 25 doubleheader against Baltimore, then sent down after that game. Thursday’s paperwork just brings all three back.
Gil is the most established name of the group. The 2024 American League Rookie of the Year missed most of this season with a shoulder injury, resumed throwing in mid-June, faced hitters in late July and began a rehab assignment at High-A Hudson Valley on Aug. 11.
Triple-A activated him on August 18 with plans for him to pitch in relief. The Yankees called him up on August 30, then sent him back down on September 24.
He will be eligible for arbitration in 2027, but his spot on next year’s team is still uncertain. This recall does not answer that question; it just puts him back on the 40-man roster after the season ended.
HaHanner, 27, made his major-league debut on August 11 after the Yankees added him to the roster in mid-July to prevent him from opting out of his minor-league contract. He was one of the better relievers at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with a 2.10 ERA and a 29 percent strikeout rate over 51⅓ innings, though he still walked too many batters. His results in the majors were much tougher: he had an 8.59 ERA in 7⅓ innings and gave up four home runs before being sent down after pitching two scoreless innings and earning a win against the Rays on September 24. He was a 21st-round pick by Minnesota in 2019 and joined the Yankees as a minor-league free agent.
Beck, a 2021 second-round pick out of Stanford and the brother of Giants right-hander Tristan Beck, debuted on May 7. In four appearances and 12⅔ innings he went 0-2 with a 9.95 ERA, including a five-inning loss to the Orioles on Sept. 25 in which he allowed seven runs. He is 28 and still searching for a defined role.
This timing follows a common postseason routine. Teams often bring back optioned 40-man players from complex assignments after their season ends, clearing the roster before offseason changes start.
For the Yankees, this process begins after a 93-68 season, a Wild Card Series win over Boston, and a three-game Division Series loss to the Rays, which pushed their championship drought to 1These recalls do not change that outcome. They simply put Hanner, Gil, and Beck back on the major-league roster list.he ledger.
