Anyone who bought deli-style spreads or salads in Brooklyn, Queens, or the Bronx in the past week should check their refrigerator.
Made Fresh Salads Inc., a Bay Shore, New York, company, has recalled every ready-to-eat deli salad and cream cheese product it makes after testing found Listeria monocytogenes inside its production facility.
The recall was announced on September 6, 2026, after both the FDA and the company sampled the plant and detected the bacteria in several areas. No illnesses have been linked to the products so far, but health officials are urging people not to take chances with Listeria, which can be especially dangerous for young children, older adults, pregnant women, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
What Was Recalled
The recalled cream cheese comes in 5-pound and 30-pound white plastic tubs carrying either the Made Fresh Salads or Northside label. Flavors include scallion, lox, vegetable, jalapeño, tofu, apple cinnamon, whipped, and several others.
The deli salad lineup is just as wide, covering potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, tuna salad, chickpea salad, bowtie pesto, and more, along with items like crab cakes, potato croquettes, and pudding cups sold in half-size aluminum pans.
All of the affected products carry expiration dates between September 3 and September 18, 2026, printed in the bottom left corner of the label.
Why Your Container Might Not Say “Made Fresh Salads”
Here is the part that makes this recall tricky. The products left the factory in bulk containers and were shipped straight to retailers and distributors across New York City. Many local delis and grocery stores then scoop the cream cheese or salad into their own smaller containers before selling it, often without any brand name attached. That means a tub sitting in your fridge right now could contain recalled product even if it looks completely generic.
If you bought spreads or prepared salads from a deli or grocery store in the affected boroughs recently and cannot confirm the supplier, it is worth asking the store directly or simply tossing the item to be safe.

This is not the plant’s first brush with Listeria. Records show the company also recalled products in October 2025 and again in February 2026 after contamination was found during earlier inspections. Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiffness, nausea, and diarrhea, and in pregnant women the infection can lead to miscarriage, premature birth or serious illness in a newborn. Anyone who ate the recalled products and develops these symptoms should contact a doctor right away.
